Help us provide life-saving services to survivors from the floods in Libya

On 10, September 2023, Storm Daniel hit northeastern Libya with, causing unprecedented floods that destroyed huge portions of entire cities and led to the collapse of two dams in Derna, the Jaza dam between Derna and Benghazi and the Qattara dam near Benghazi. According to the World Humanitarian Organization WHO, the floods have left approximately 3,958 people dead and more than 9,000 are still missing. These figures are expected to rise as search and rescue crews work tirelessly to find survivors.

According to the International Organization for Migration, more than 40,000 people have been displaced across northeastern Libya.

Derna is the most affected location by the storm that led to severe destruction of buildings, housing, hospitals, schools and infrastructure. Water is threatened to be polluted and people (particularly children and elderly) are at risk of diseases like cholera, diarrhoea and dehydration.

UOSSM plans to provide immediate life-saving assistance to the most affected people by the storm through humanitarian interventions that prioritize shelter, health, food, wash, sanitation, NFIs
